The Straits at Joo Chiat project draws inspiration from the rich Peranakan heritage of the neighborhood. We incorporated modern materials to reinterpret traditional crafts and patterns, such as batik, creating a unique blend of contemporary and cultural design elements.

Familiar Peranakan floral motifs are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, preserving their nostalgic charm while refining their expression. The design evaluates how memory and modernity can coexist — where motifs that have stood the test of time are distilled into clearer forms and balanced compositions.

Patterns merge different visual languages: memory, geometry, and ornament — arranged in both longitudinal and diagonal directions to evoke rhythm and continuity throughout the space.
